When Everton were first linked with a move for Moise Kean it looked like one of those stories which could easily slip away and be largely forgotten.
Marcel Brands has a good relationship with the player’s agent, Mino Raiola, the Merseyside club are looking to sign young players and develop them, so all the pieces easily fell into place.
Yet the story hasn’t disappeared, and if anything it’s been growing, especially over the past 24 hours.
On Wednesday, Tuttosport said Everton are doing their best to sign the player, and suggested the asking price could now be as high as €45-50m. We pointed out that moving to such a high price is potentially a tactic which would allow Juve to then reduce the fee on condition of a buy-back clause.
Gazzetta dello Sport now have an article which suggests that hunch was correct.
They report Everton are ‘pushing’ a lot for the player’s signing, and say Juventus don’t want to lose control of Kean completely. That means a buy-back clause, with a fee said to be ‘at least €40m’.
Depending on what the buy-back amount would be, and whether Brands could get Juventus down to €35-40m, this could be a good deal for Everton.
