On August 18th, we carried a report from Corriere Dello Sport, who said Everton will ‘dive in’ for Joaquín Correa once they manage to get James Rodríguez out of the club.
So far, there hasn’t been any concrete movements for the Colombian to leave the Merseyside club, but there has reportedly been a new development in their efforts to sign the Lazio player.
Inter Milan have the 27-year-old on their agenda, but the Toffees are ‘overtaking’ the Serie A winners, according to Il Messaggero.
It’s claimed Everton, who ‘push’ to sign the Argentina international, ‘present a proposal’ of €30m plus an additional €4m payments in bonuses to Lazio.
In addition to this, Rafael Benítez’s side have also proposed a four-year contract worth €5m per season to the attacker.
Although Everton have taken the lead to sign Correa, Il Messaggero say the Nerazzurri are not out of the race yet and have asked the South American’s camp to ‘wait for a few more days’.
What seems certain, as per the report, is the attacker’s farewell from Lazio is ‘close’, and whether Correa will end up at Everton, Inter or another club remains to be seen.
Given what has been claimed this summer about a lack of transfer funds at Everton, it’s a big step to say they’ve offered so much for a player.
