As you may be aware by now, the Colombian press are absolutely obsessed with everything surrounding James Rodríguez and Everton.

After a year basically doing nothing at Real Madrid, the press Rodriguez’s home country have not wasted their opportunity to make up for lost time and coverage.

Barely a day goes by when someone isn’t saying something about the Everton star, particularly when he isn’t playing due to injury.

That has been the case over the last few weeks, where there has been near-daily coverage of his absence and all manner of accusations about what is going on behind the scenes.

It’s not something that’s gone unnoticed in England, with both Carlo Ancelotti and Rodríguez both coming out before the defeat to Burnley on Saturday to try and clear things up.

Despite that, his absence from the Everton lineup continues to get coverage, and today, former Colombia striker Miguel Ángel Guerrero has had his say on the midfielder’s continued absence.

“I know what you hear every day about James, the issue of injuries, when he was at Real Madrid, where he didn’t have continuity, and now that he is at Everton and the injuries have appeared again,” he told Deportes Sin Tapujos, relayed by Futbol Red.

“It really is a worrying issue because it is no secret that James Rodríguez is a very important player not only for that team (Everton) but for the Colombian national team.

“One is surprised at how a player comes with such injuries; also, when he was at Real Madrid, he had a period in which he was injured a lot.

“They said it was a muscular problem; also, at Bayern, he had the same problem.

“It is impressive that being in Europe, where one says that they have the best doctors, because Messi also showed them at Barcelona and was cured, until this day he never got injured again with that constancy.

“James situation is worrying because a player who plays two games, is doing well and then falls back into this type of injury is not hitting the mark, as they say popularly.”
