French newspaper L’Equipe are already pondering the country’s squad for Euro 2020 and have been doing so since the start of the current international break.
For two Everton players, inclusion in Didier Deschamps selection hangs in the balance, and the French newspaper explains the situation.
The two first choice fullbacks in the squad are said to be Benjamin Pavard and Lucas Hernandez, and as far as L’Equipe are concerned, there’s ‘no room for doubt’ about that.
When it comes to their deputies, Everton pair Lucas Digne and Djibril Sidibé are major contenders right now.
For the latter, his situation changed hugely when Seamus Coleman was unavailable for Marco Silva. Sidibé took the chance, and he’s told he now needs to keep up the ‘resistance’ and make sure Coleman doesn’t get his place back.
If that’s the case for the rest of the season, and Sidibé himself doesn’t pick up any injury issues, then it’s thought he has a good chance of making the tournament.
Lucas Digne is also believed to be a major man in Deschamps’ thinking. He’ll have to watch what happens at Manchester City with Benjamin Mendy, who L’Equipe believe ‘seems more complete’ than the Everton player and is also thought to be more versatile with position.
Real Madrid Ferland Mendy could also be a threat, dependent on his game time.
The rest of Everton’s season is going to be crucial.
