Everton goalkeeper João Virgínia should not stay at the club for the 2021/22 season, according to reports from the Portuguese media.

Outlet O Jogo reports today that there are clubs who are interested in his signing and should take him away from the Goodison Park for now.

It’s claimed that the 21-year-old has been getting approaches from Championship sides, as well as from foreign clubs who play ‘in first divisions’.

Virgínia should leave on a loan deal. O Jogo claims that Everton believe in the player’s potential and are confident that he could be back ‘stronger’ to fight for a starting position in the future.

Virgínia started his career at Benfica, having moved to England to sign for Arsenal in 2015 and then joining Everton in 2018.

Since belonging to the Toffees, he also had a loan spell at Reading, but returned to Goodison Park in January 2020 and was promoted to the first team.

He had three appearances for Everton last season, and clearly needs more minutes to continue his development.

His contract with the Toffees runs until 2024.
