With Colombia having a quite important match against Uruguay for the World Cup Qualifiers last night, many eyes were on Yerry Mina, who had a couple of extra reasons to prove himself.
When the two nations’ last encountered each other last year, the Everton star had a quite disappointing display, making mistakes and getting sent off in the 3-0 defeat.
Then following Colombia’s loss to Argentina in the Copa America this summer, Uruguay star Luis Suarez made a comment on Lionel Messi’s Instagram telling the Cafeteros to ‘dance now’, as a clear reference to the defender’s classic celebrations.
Now despite all that pressure on Mina last night, he had a quite safe performance in the 0-0 draw, which attracted a lot of compliments from the local media.
Outlet Marca features a story with a headline saying ‘The tremendous dance of Yerry Mina on Luis Suárez and Cavani’.
They claim the Uruguay stars had the ‘objective of destabilising’ the Everton player, who didn’t get into the mind games and had an ‘impeccable’ performance.
Marca highlights that Mina ‘made a big marking’ on Suarez, having also ‘overcome’ Cavani and Darwin Nuñez, their newest star.
Now with his head up, Mina is set to play against Colombia and Ecuador for the upcoming fixtures, but he’d need to hurry to get back in England in time for Everton’s match against West Ham on Sunday.
