Needing a win against bitter rivals Everton to ensure they remained top of the league, Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool were unable to achieve their goal.

Facing a stubborn Toffees side, the Reds never managed to find a way past Jordan Pickford, who was seen by Gazzetta dello Sport as the best goalkeeper in Europe over the weekend, making their European Team of the Week.

Joining the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Riyad Mahrez and best graded Robert Lewandowski, the Everton shot stopper will have been pleased with his performance against Liverpool this time around, especially after what happened very late on in the last Merseyside derby.

Bought from Sunderland during the summer of 2017 for £25m, the 24-year-old has enjoyed a successful couple of years at Goodison Park, earning himself a ticket to Russia with Gareth Southgate last summer and playing a key role in England reaching the World Cup semi finals.

Despite Everton going through a relatively rough patch this season, Pickford is now only two clean sheets away from last season’s tally of 10.
