AS report on Monday afternoon that figures released today from Barcelona show the club owes a staggering €260m in unpaid transfer fees.
This relates to payments which were agreed to be spread over the course of a player’s contract. For example, they still owe €94m to Liverpool for the Philippe Coutinho transfer.
Barcelona are, in turn, owed €75m themselves in transfer fees, and AS state it’s Everton who ‘stand out’ on the list of clubs who will have to send money to Catalonia in the coming years.
Everton are down as owing more than €25m.
That’s made up of €9.75m for Yerry Mina, €6.7m for Lucas Digne, and €9.56m for Andre Gomes.
There’s nothing unusual in clubs spreading their payments out over the length of a contract, although Barcelona would probably prefer to be due to pay less in the coming years.
AS doesn’t give any information over whether this is related to bonus payments, with the insinuation it’s the base transfer fees being counted.
