Everton outcast Neal Maupay has insisted he’s staying at Marseille next season, despite reports to the contrary.
Maxi Foot cover comments from the striker today made at Marseille’s Commanderie training complex, where it appears he was questioned about his future.
The striker is currently on loan at Marseille from Everton, but the deal includes an obligation for the French side to make the deal permanent this summer.
That does not mean he will absolutely be remaining at his current club, though, as a recent report stated Marseille’s plan is to buy the striker, then immediately sell him on this summer, potentially to Championship or Premier League side.
This naturally earned plenty of attention, particularly from Everton fans, who are never reluctant to get involved in a war of words with Maupay given his desire to stick the knife in whenever he can.
Indeed, fate seemed to be on their side on this particular one, with fans keen to point him back to a tweet he made about Everton being relegated to the Championship not long ago.
It seems, though, he is unaware of any Marseille plan to move him on, insisting to Marseille supporters that he has no intention of leaving.
“Next season, do I stay, or do I leave? No, I’m staying, I’m staying,” he told fans on Wednesday when asked about the reports.
The question, though, is whether Marseille agree. The French side appear to have run out of patience with Maupay in recent months and don’t seem all that keen on keeping him long-term.
It could lead to something of an awkward summer, with him clearly wanting to stay but their plans seemingly very different.
