Unwanted at Villarreal this season, Boulaye Dia was sent on loan to Salernitana in Serie A with an option to buy at €12m.
He’s impressed with his performances since, proving decisive more than once, scoring four goals in eight games and assisting another two, which has apparently caught the eye of Everton.
This is according to Tutto Salernitana, who claim the information as an exclusive, explaining that ‘a couple of English clubs’, of which ‘one would be Everton’, have contacted Villarreal about a potential transfer that.
It’s said they reached out to the La Liga side to ‘ask for information’, as well as ‘offering figures close to €15-16m’ for the Senegal international.
That’s more than the option to buy Salernitana currently have in the agreement with Villarreal, making that particular deal less attractive for the Spaniards than what Everton seemingly have in mind.
This is why, not wanting to be ‘caught unprepared’, the brass at Salernitana are planning a meeting about the situation, as they know Dia is ‘destined to fight for other goals’ than what the Serie A club have to offer.
However, they still have ‘the dream of building the future project around him by keeping him as long as possible’.
Therefore, it could all come down to Dia, who, should he move to Everton, have to deal with competition from Dominic Calvert-Lewin and recent signing Neal Maupay.
In contrast, he is a regular at Salernitana, which will likely give him something to think about.
