Everton aren’t going gently into the battle to sign Sead Kolasinac from Schalke, according to SportBild’s magazine this week. Kolasinac’s contract ends in the summer and he’s been offered €4.5m a year to renew, but clubs outside of Germany can offer more.

SportBild say several Premier League teams have offered Kolasinac in excess of €6m per year, and Everton have offered up to €10m including bonuses. Doing the maths, that converts to £8.5m, which is about £160k per week.

The reason for the colossal wages is that Kolasinac is free, and overall the deal would be much cheaper for Everton than paying £25m for a player and adding £5m a year over a four year contract.

Bonuses play a big part, and Kolasinac may have to fire Everton to Champions League glory and be nominated for the Ballon d’Or to get the full amount.

This could create a question mark over Leighton Baines, who turns 33 years of age in December, but Kolasinac is also adept on the left wing and has shown that for Schalke. Ronald Koeman would have options, the 23 year can even play in central defence if required and suits a number of formations.

Everton interest makes sense, but Koeman’s problem is Kolasinac makes sense for several clubs. The German slant seems to be that Manchester City are well positioned, with there also being interest from Chelsea, Tottenham, Juventus and Atletico Madrid.
