Marseille full-back Jordan Amavi has backed Niels Nkounkou’s decision to join Everton, believing the youngster will shine in the future.

Nkounkou became Everton’s first signing of the summer transfer window earlier this year, arriving on a free transfer from Marseille after his contract expired.

The move has so far worked out to be a beneficial one for both parties, with Nkounkou earning rave reviews in the handful of appearances he’s made so far, particularly in the EFL Cup.

Indeed, many have been quick to praise Everton chief Marcel Brands for the signing, believing the Dutchman has unearthed another bargain for the Toffees.

It’s a different story in France, with many, including Marseille-based rap group Guirri Mafia, questioning the club’s decision to let the youngster go.

Former teammate Amavi did not take that route when asked about the youngster recently, instead backing the 20-year-old to make his mark at Goodison Park.

“He has a lot of qualities, I find that he is a powerful player, technically he is quite comfortable,” Foot 01 report him saying.

“Afterwards, he has to work; he is still young. As for succeeding elsewhere, maybe he would have had his chance, he could have played.

“But he was not launched, he made the choice to leave, it is his decision, good for him, I do not worry, he will have a very good career.”
