The interest from English clubs in signing William Carvalho has been reported for quite a few years now, but things seem to have got more serious lately.

First West Ham tried to sign the midfielder in the summer window, and now Everton are reportedly willing to open talks by offering €35m.

That amount isn’t much below William’s release clause, which is of €45m, and with these bids going up, it seems Sporting are already making a plan to feel more protected about it.

As reported by A Bola today, the club have started talks for a contract renewal, with a new deal running until 2021. This new agreement would include an increase on William’s salary, and of course, a bigger release clause.

The clause would go from €45m to €60m, which would give Sporting a much bigger margin to negotiate, and make it more difficult for clubs like Everton.

A Bola also claims that William will not be sold in the winter market, so whoever wants him will have to pay for the €45m release clause, or even €60m in case the new contract is signed before then.

So if Everton were really thinking about just ‘opening’ the talks with €35m, perhaps they should add other €10m soon. Otherwise, the price will grow a lot, and a lot of patience will be needed during the negotiations.
