Everton have approached Marseille striker Valère Germain about a move in the summer transfer window.
That’s according to L’Equipe, who say the Blues have only ‘come forward’ for the forward at this moment in time and nothing more.
Germain currently finds himself out of favour with the Ligue 1 side, with new manager Jorge Sampaoli yet to give him his chance to impress.
He spent the weekend sat on the sidelines watching his side’s 2-0 win over Dijon, which, according to the newspaper, is a ‘clear indication’ of his standing in Sampaoli’s plans.
As far as they are concerned, an end to his time at the club is ‘inevitable’, and he is dreaming of one last contract abroad.
He’s already held talks to make such a move, and Italy is looking like his next destination, with him already holding ‘serious contacts’ with several clubs.
Two French sides, Bordeaux and Rennes, have also ‘expressed interest’ while there are others, Everton and AC Milan, who have ‘simply come forward’.
It’s stated for them the 31-year-old would be signed ‘with a view to completing their squad’, but neither side have gone any further in the exchanges beyond that first contact.
Most clubs are cautious about making moves at this moment in time, given the financial situation caused by COVID, even when it comes to signing players on a free like Germain.
It is because of that, and presumably his age, he’ll be 31 later this month, that clubs like Everton are taking a cautious approach and simply putting out the feelers at this moment in time.
