Dutch side FC Twente are ‘talking’ to Everton youngster Nathan Markelo about a potential loan move this summer.
That’s what Tubantia report today, stating that Everton Director of Football Marcel Brands is looking to ship out the youngster this summer.
They report that Brands is keen for Markelo, who recently signed a two-year contract extension at Goodison Park, to head out on loan and play regularly at the ‘highest level’ next season.
A move to the Eredivisie would, therefore, make sense for the Dutchman and FC Twente are ready to provide him with the opportunity.
They are already ‘talking’ to the 21-year-old about a possible switch and are hopeful that he can join them for the start of pre-season on July 27th.
Whether Markelo, who joined Everton in 2017 after several years with FC Volendam and has been a regular for the Under 23 side this season, is open to the deal isn’t mentioned.
He’s yet to enjoy his first-team break at Goodison Park despite having been used in friendlies in the past and is unlikely to enjoy it in the near future either.
The fact Brands is seeking a loan deal for him, though, suggests he has faith the youngster can come good at some point.
A loan spell would thus be ideal, particularly in a market and league that the Everton chief knows exceptionally well.
