Everton striker Cenk Tosun turned down an offer from CSKA Moscow to ensure he returned to Besiktas on deadline day.
That’s what FotoMac report today, also stating that the Turkish forward forewent a portion of his wages to help the Super Lig side secure his signature.
Tosun returned to his former club on deadline day of the January transfer window, with Everton allowing him to go out on loan until the end of the season so they could sign Josh King from Bournemouth.
The striker had been linked with a move back to his homeland for several weeks but was also the subject of interest from elsewhere, particularly CKSA Moscow in Russia.
FotoMac now confirm those rumours and say that the Russian side actually made a bid for his services, offering to pay €500,000 for the loan and cover all of his €1.25m wages.
However, while Tosun was ‘sympathetic’ to the offer, he immediately called Besiktas president Ahmet Nur Çebi and told him he wanted to return there instead.
Çebi, in turn, contacted Everton and reiterated that they wanted to loan Tosun and the player was keen on the move too.
With this knowledge, Everton made it clear they didn’t want a loan fee for the striker but needed all of his wages to be covered if they were to let him go.
That was hard for Besiktas to do so Tosun instead cut his salary, reducing it by €250,000 to €1m, a price the Turkish side could presumably afford.
Thus, the deal was done, with Çebi promising to pay Tosun back in some way, and everyone got the deadline day move that they wanted as a result.
