Carlo Ancelotti left Napoli in December and later that month was appointed as Marco Silva’s successor at Everton.

Following the arrival of the former Chelsea manager at Goodison Park, results have improved and the Toffees suffered only three league defeats under his guidance.

Even though the 60-year-old has just completed his first six months at the Merseyside club, he’s been asked about the possibility of returning to AS Roma in the future.

“It would take a long time to explain about the Napoli experience. We’d better leave it at that, also because now I have a meeting with the other coaches and we have to establish the protocols for the recovery,” Ancelotti told Radio Radio.

“I often come to Rome on vacation. Those who do this job have a lot of respect for colleagues. Experience tells you that there is a very good coach at Roma and maybe my friend [Paulo] Fonseca might resent it, even if he wouldn’t because he’s a very smart person.”

“I hope the Italian championship can return in the healthiest and safest way. Because returning to play is what we all expect now, but in the healthiest and safest way for everyone.”

The 2019/20 season was suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic in March and the Premier League is set to resume this week. Everton’s first fixture after the global health crisis will be at home against Liverpool on June 21st.

On restarting the Premier League, Ancelotti said: “In England the recovery was divided into two steps. The first step was group work, the second was that of collective work which is going well.

“Now there is the third step which is to go back to playing. Of course, there are concerns, but also a lot of decision and clarity in the things you must do. There is only one voice.

“We all agree on restarting [the league] and therefore I am convinced that everything will go well. Of course, playing with empty stadiums is not the best of life but I think it is the necessary step before we can think of opening stadiums for people.”

Radio Radio also asked the Everton boss about his compatriot, Moise Kean, who has struggled in his debut season in England.

“I think Moise Kean has many qualities,” Ancelotti said about the former Juventus man.

“He is a great talent and, as I said before, today’s football must surely be based on talent which must however be supported by great character, professionalism and personality. Now he is very young. He is a serious boy, helpful and will surely do well.”
