Everton goalkeeper Robin Olsen has been left out of media duties for Sweden after the home robbery incident at his home earlier this month.
Olsen and his family were subjected to a terrifying ordeal when burglars broke into his home and held his family hostage while they stole jewellery and watches, among other things.
The incident was naturally a traumatic one for the Everton man, who missed the last game before the international break and hasn’t featured in Sweden’s two World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Kosovo.
He was due to be put up for media duties this week, but Fotboll Skanalen now report the goalkeeper has asked to be excused from them.
“Robin Olsen will not be available to the media during this collection,” a statement from press manager Jakob Kakembo said.
“Given the tough time that Robin and his family have been through, he has asked not to be available for this collection, which we, of course, accepted.”
It now remains to be seen what will happen with Olsen this summer when his loan spell comes to an end.
Everton are keen to keep the goalkeeper permanently as competition for Jordan Pickford, but as yet, it’s unknown whether Olsen will want the same.
Reports in England have indicated he doesn’t following the robbery at his home, but that is very much not the stance being shared from Italy, where they are convinced it will happen at some point.
