Everton defender Yerry Mina has again found himself the focus of taunting following Peru’s win over Colombia.
Peru picked up an impressive win over Mina’s Colombia in a World Cup qualifier on January 28th, with Edinson Flores’ 85th-minute striker handing them all three points.
The result left Mina and Colombia trailing in the race to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar this winter, with them currently sitting sixth in the standings with 17 points from 15 games.
It was a serious blow to their hopes of qualifying, and it seems the disappointment didn’t end there for Mina.
Marca report that the Everton man has found himself as the centre of ‘controversy’ once more after he was targeted by Peru’s Christian Cueva in a window after the game.
They explain that Cueva published a video on his social media in which he ‘sings a song’ dedicated to the Everton man.
The origins of this are ‘unclear’, but there were reports that the Colombian centre-back ‘said a few words’ before the match that seemingly provoked a bit of anger in the Peru squad.
“We know that Peru likes chocolate; that’s why on Friday they are going to taste the real chocolate,” the Everton defender reportedly said.
This is referenced by Cueva in his video, in which he’s in a car and singing Mina’s name while mentioning chocolate, a term used in Peru to refer to the ‘beautiful and colourful game’.
In other words, Mina’s comments hit home, and Cueva replied with a video mocking him.
Of course, it’s not the first time the Everton man has been caught up in such a situation, having found himself the centre of attention due to a similar incident with Argentina earlier this year.
Every time he opens his mouth or does something like this, it seems to go badly for him, but we’re sure that won’t stop similar happening in future.
