It’s Monday, meaning that most of the Italian newspapers are busy deconstructing performances from various teams in Serie A, but when it comes to January, they always leave the odd few lines for transfer business.
That applies to AS Roma, who are still umming and aahing about either moving for Stephan El Shaarawy or Everton’s Bernard.
While there appeared to be a preference for the former from a financial point of view, it appears that, slowly but surely, the balance is tipping in the Brazilian’s favour.
That’s because Shanghai Greenland Shenhua, the Italy international’s club, want some kind of compensation for letting him go on loan to Roma, which the Serie A side don’t want to pay.
While they would have to pay a fee for Bernard, that would be reduced by inserting Robin Olsen in the deal, which Corriere dello Sport explain makes him more ‘accessible’.
One of the reasons for that is the fact Carlo Ancelotti has given his ‘ok’ to the exchange, which could end up being €5-6m + the Swedish goalkeeper.
It’s said the situation is ‘in standby’ and that things will be ‘clearer’ in a week, which is echoed by Gazzetta dello Sport, who, when briefly looking at the Bernard situation, state ‘the next week will be decisive’.
We eagerly await more.
