A little earlier we covered a claim from L’Equipe that Everton are interested in signing Watford’s Abdoulaye Doucoure before the transfer window closes.
The French newspaper said the Toffees have formulated a €30m offer, but it was made clear that amount wouldn’t be enough, with Watford looking more at something like €40m as a starting point if they’re even going to enter into negotiations.
Doucoure would be the replacement for Idrissa Gana Gueye, according to L’Equipe, yet there was no mention of Jean-Philippe Gbamin, who was confirmed as an arrival on Friday evening.
Now RMC have generally backed the claims up, although the figures are slightly different. They say Everton put forward an offer ‘a few days’ ago of around £32m, which was unsuccessful.
However, Everton, who are described as being ‘very interested’, ‘do not intend to stop there’ and will submit a higher offer.
It’s unlikely to be Marco Silva’s club or Everton pushing these claims, and perhaps it’s no coincidence they’re coming from France.
