Everton have ‘set their sights’ on Real Betis’ Guido Rodríguez this summer.

That’s what Argentine journalist César Luis Merlo is reporting and he took to Twitter to make this claim about the 28-year-old.

He states Everton have ‘made an approach’ with the midfielder, but haven’t taken any further steps to secure his services.

At the moment, César Luis Merlo says there is ‘still no formal offer’ from the Toffees for the Argentina international. That’s about the only information shared by the journalist regarding the Merseyside club’s interest in the player.

César Luis Merlo’s claims are relayed by Diario de Sevilla and they add Everton have not gone beyond an approach made to Rodríguez. Frank Lampard’s side are looking for a new defensive midfielder and have their eyes set on the South American.

Rodríguez joined Betis from Mexican side Club América in January 2020. The La Liga side own 70 percent of his rights, while they still have an option to acquire an additional 20 percent. This would allow them to earn more from the player’s potential sale.

Rodríguez scored two goals and registered three assists from 47 games last season.
