Everton are ‘leading the race’ to sign AC Milan’s Samu Chukwueze, with an operation valued at around €45-50m.
That’s according to Fichajes, who report that the Nigerian attacker has attracted the attention of several sides in the Premier League, but it is Everton who are out in front.
They explain that Chukwueze has proven to be a crucial player for AC Milan since arriving in a €23m deal from Villarreal last summer.
His performances last season, when he managed three goals and three assists in 33 games in total, have reportedly had Premier League scouts taking notice and now Everton are pushing forward.
They want to continue improving their squad despite making five signings already and Chukwueze’s ability to play on both wings as well as centrally has made them interested in a deal.
They’ve made an unidentified offer for the player, with Fichajes saying a deal could be done for €45-50m but that seeming excessive to say the least, particularly for Everton.
While they may have money to spend after selling Amadou Onana they certainly don’t have that much, nor are their finances suddenly so recovered for them to be able to do so either.
Add in that such a deal would be handing AC Milan a €30m profit on a player who signed for €20m a year ago and had three goals and three assists to his name last year, and it doesn’t seem very realistic at all.
Perhaps Everton’s interest is genuine but not at the price currently being quoted, which on the face of it seems very unlikely indeed.
