Everton are reportedly interested in the Porto left-back Miguel Layun.
According to reports from the Portuguese press today, Everton are alongside Fenerbahce in the race for the 29-year-old, who’s currently unhappy in Portugal.
Newspaper A Bola claims that Layun has recently asked to leave Porto, since he’s not getting enough playing time and is now afraid of losing his World Cup spot in the Mexican national team.
Problem is that Porto are not accepting his request, at least not for now. Manager Sergio Conceição has already claimed that he’s not releasing any players without making signings first, so the left-back will stay where he is after the January window.
A Bola doesn’t say how much Porto would demand for the player, but even though they are known for being tough negotiators, it’s hard to believe they are in a position to demand much from Everton or anyone else.
The Portuguese side paid only €6m to take the player from Watford in 2016, and have been keeping him on the bench, where he doesn’t have a chance to compete against the first option Alex Telles.
The newspaper claims that Layun is now hopeful that the club president Pinto da Costa will accept the manager’s demands and bring a few signings in the January market. That’s the only way that the player could get a transfer in the middle of the season.
Everton would be a fantastic opportunity for him.
