Everton have joined the race to sign Wolfsburg midfielder Anton Donkor, according to reports in the German media.
The 19-year-old has been told by the Bundesliga club he can go out on loan to get first team experience, and has already been linked with a move to Aston Villa in recent weeks.
Sportbuzzer.de have claimed Everton are now in the frame to sign Donkor on loan until the end of the season, despite the player’s recent trial with Aston Villa. It’s been reported Aston Villa’s interest in the youngster has cooled, and therefore Everton are now looking to step in and land the German U20 international.
Donkor can play on both wings and could be an option for Everton given Gerard Deulofeu has joined AC Milan on loan until the end of the season. Only last week Donkor confirmed the interest from Aston Villa, and said he would be interested in a move to England: “Yes, my agent has had contact with Aston Villa. In order to further develop myself, a loan to England would surely be a good thing.”
Aston Villa and Everton have been tracking Donkor ever since he impressed against Leicester City in the UEFA youth Champions League, but it now seems the player stands a better chance of heading to Merseyside, where he’d surely start as a member of their development team.
