AS Roma have been looking to sign Lille’s Zeki Çelik in the ongoing window and their interest has already been reported in the Italian media.
The Serie A side will face a ‘match’ with Everton for the right-back, if a report from Le10 Sport is to be believed.
It’s claimed the 23-year-old has been courted by clubs in Italy and England for over a year, and has now emerged a transfer target for the Toffees.
According to the report, there is a battle between the Giallorossi and the Merseyside club, ‘organised hour by hour’, to acquire the defender’s services.
The website explains the French club will be ‘listening to the various proposals that could be made’ for the player this month.
Çelik’s current deal with Lille lasts until 2023 and if his employer receives a ‘good offer’, of around €15m, they will study it.
The Turkey international, for his part, is also ‘open to a departure’ in January, and the report further adds he’s ready to explore a new league outside France.
Seamus Coleman and Jonjoe Kenny are the two recognised right-backs at Goodison Park.
The 32-year-old made his first start in close to two months against West Ham United, while Kenny has made only one start in the league this season.
Carlo Ancelotti has largely relied on Mason Holgate on the right side of the defence in recent fixtures, which could be the reason why Everton have identified Çelik as a target.
