Everton are one of the sides to have shown interest in Ramos Planes but now face competition from Espanyol for his signature.
That’s according to ARA, who say the Catalan side have made initial enquiries to sign the former Barcelona sporting director.
Planes has enjoyed a varied career working as both a sporting director and technical director in Spain and England, with spells at Tottenham and Barcelona the standout appointments.
He left the latter in November last year and has been out of work since then but is still highly regarded in the game and not short of suitors.
Everton are one of those believed to be keen in him, and ARA confirm reports from earlier this year, stating that they are one of the clubs to have ‘come to light’ in recent months.
Espanyol can now be added to that list, with it explained that they are on the lookout for a replacement for Rufete, and Planes is on their list.
They’ve been sounding out candidates for week, and Planes, who has been their technical secretariat and sporting director on two separate occasions, is a player they have made an ‘enquiry’ for.
They value his knowledge of the club, as well as his knowledge of the Spanish market and international market, while Planes would not be unhappy to return to the club.
He, though, has interest from clubs around Europe and Everton, as well as Newcastle in the Premier League.
The Toffees interest is something that’s been mentioned in the past, but that was very much before Kevin Thelwell was appointed as the Blues new director of football, so it’s unclear here if ARA are unaware of that or they believe Planes could get a different role at Goodison Park.
We’d suggest it’s the former, given it was hardly huge news, but we’ll keep an eye on the situation in case there’s more suggestions Everton remain keen on him.
