Everton remain interested in striker Viktor Gyökeres and are seen as major competition for Sporting Club de Portugal for the player.

That’s according to Record, who say Everton are one of several sides keen on the 24-year-old forward this summer.

They explain that Gyökeres is the first name on Sporting’s list to reinforce their forward line after another great season in the Championship.

He’s managed 40 goals, 22 this season and 18 last season, over the last two campaigns and has added 17 assists to that tally as well. This year also has seen him participate in no less than 34 goal contributions.

That’s not gone unnoticed by Sporting, and he is on their list of potential targets as they eye up a new forward for the squad this summer.

They are willing to ‘make a high investment’ to get that player but they will have to move quickly for Gyökeres as he has numerous suitors in the Premier League.

The list of interested parties is already long and among them are financially powerful clubs capable of presenting better arguments than Sporting in a financial sense. Everton are one of those clubs according to the newspaper.

They’ve been linked with Gyökeres for a while, with them reportedly keen last summer and in the January transfer window as well.

They also have a desperate need for a goal scorer and the fact that he is ‘valued at €13m’ suits Everton given the state of their finances.

That figure seems low, but Gyökeres is out of contract in 2024, meaning his price is reduced as Coventry may need to sell this summer or lose him on a free in a year’s time.
