In the past few days, some stories in Italy have been saying that Everton would be interested in the Grêmio defender Walter Kannemann.

It started with newspaper Corriere Dello Sport claiming that the Toffees were trying to win Cagliari in the race for the player. Then journalist Gianluca Di Marzio said that the Serie A side were ahead in the competition.

But now a report from Brazilian website UOL claims that Grêmio have rejected a €4m offer from the Italian side, and are now offering the defender a new contract.

The player’s staff are currently analysing the proposal, and Grêmio hope that the love Kannemann has from the club’s fans will convince him to stay in Porto Alegre. Everton are not mentioned in the story.

We had a word with Marinho Saldanha, who wrote UOL’s report, and according to him, Grêmio don’t confirm Everton’s interest. That’s why the Toffees are currently being ignored by the Brazilian media.
