Everton interest ‘normal’, according to Koeman target, will make decision ‘when the time comes’

 

With only three ‘experienced’ centre-backs at his disposal at Everton, it makes sense for Ronald Koeman to be looking around for a new recruit in that department, and Danish defender Alexander Scholz is apparently one of them.

The 24-year-old. who currently plays for Standard Liege in Belgium, is a key part of Aleksandar Jankovic’s plans, and his performances have caught the eye of more than one club, including the Toffees.

Speaking about the interest to DH in Belgium, the player admitted being aware of the rumours surrounding his future, but also made it clear that it wasn’t something he was currently thinking about, preferring to focus on what happens on the pitch for now.

He said: “If I have a choice to make, I’ll see when the time comes, but for now, it’s the [Europa League] game against Celta Vigo that matters.

“Everton’s interest? It’s normal when you play for Standard that clubs like that are interested in you. I have the same qualities that I had at Lokeren, but I’ve shown them at a higher level.”

Keeping very level-headed, the Denmark U21 international reassured Standard fans by saying there was a ‘very big chance’ that he would still be here beyond January.

His teammates have even started joking about the reported interest in him, but Scholz is trying to ignore it the best he can.

Bought from KSC Lokeren in January 2015, the centre-back has made 18 appearances for Standard Liege this season, only picking up one yellow card, and assisting his teammates once in the process.
