Everton may have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Denzel Dumfries, with Inter Milan unable to afford PSV Eindhoven’s asking price for the Dutchman.

That’s according to Corriere dello Sport, who say the Netherlands star is the number one choice at the Italian club, but his asking price is an issue.

They explain that Inter are on the hunt for a new right-back after selling Achraf Hakimi to Paris Saint Germain, and they have a list of people who fit the bill.

Dumfries is ‘more or less everyone’s favourite’ after his performances at the Euros, but Inter’s lack of money means he is out of their reach.

They would prefer a loan deal with a right of redemption, but that is ‘practically impossible’ to get as PSV Eindhoven want a permanent exit.

They need a ‘concrete offer’ to sell, something that those in charge at the club have made clear and that is ‘difficult’ for Inter to do unless they were to sell another big player.

Thus, they have turned their attention to other targets, such at Atalanta’s Hans Hateboer and Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin.

Now, there is no mention of Everton in this report from Corriere, but their interest is well established at this point, and this latest information is certainly a positive for them.

Inter are stern competition for Dumfries’ signature, particularly as they can offer European football and Everton cannot.

The Italians not being able to afford to match PSV’s demands is a major bonus, with the Toffees surely in the driving seat if the Serie A side are turning their attention elsewhere.
