David Henen will not be leaving Everton in January, according to DH in Belgium.

Following a report of interest potentially sending him back to his native country, the 21-year-old has decided to wait until the end of the season, when his current deal with the Toffees will expire, in order to freely choose the next step in his career.

According to the Belgian outlet, while Everton held negotiations to transfer the young forward this month, the Premier League side’s demands for ‘an important resale percentage as well as a buy-back clause’ made negotiations difficult.

Having rejected the opportunity to extend his stay at Goodison Park last year, Henen also came close to leaving Merseyside in the summer in hope of getting regular first-team football elsewhere.

With an exit strategy seemingly now in place (one without Everton trying to make money off him down the line), DH state that, when it does happen, the Everton U23 player will favour a return to Belgium.
