Everton striker Cenk Tosun has given an interview to Turkish newspaper Sabah at his team’s training camp at Austria.
Tosun has spoken about his teammate Davy Klaassen after the Dutchman was closely linked with a move to Besiktas earlier in the transfer window.
The striker said Besiktas wanted to sign Klaassen but the Dutchman rejected an approach from the Turkish club: “Besiktas director Ali Naibi called me and asked ‘would Klaassen come to Turkey’ I spoke with him afterwards, but he said he doesn’t want to come to Turkey and the case is closed.”
We covered reports from Turkey earlier in the window that Besiktas were looking for a loan deal for Klaassen. There were even claims the player has been offered by Everton in an exchange deal for Domagoj Vida.
Klaassen only joined Everton 12 months ago but the former Ajax captain is expected the leave the club before next month’s deadline. The player has hardly figured since arriving in England last summer and needs to find regular first team football.
The Netherlands international is contracted to the Premier League club until June 2022.
