According to Fotomac, Fenerbahce are battling it out with Everton for the signature of Mainz starlet Erkan Eyibil.

The German U18 international has been followed by Turkish side for some time but Fotomac say Everton are also interested in signing him.

It’s reported that after recently selling Eljif Elmas to Napoli for €16m, the Yellow Canaries have switched their attention to the young midfielder, who will be out of contract with Mainz at the end of next season.

However, it seems they are in the race with Everton, and the Merseyside club are hoping to get Eyibil for a cut-price fee given his contract situation. The Toffees have also been linked with Eyibil’s Mainz teammate Jean-Philippe Gbamin.

The 18 year old has been in good form for his club in preseason and could be in line to play regular first team football next season. The youngster has already been dubbed the ‘the new Mesut Ozil’ in the German media.

Eyibil scored 18 goals in the U19 Bundesliga last season and has previously been linked with a move to West Ham United.

Turkish Football had first covered Everton interest on July 29th.
