Everton’s chances of reviving their interest in Ajax’s Mohamed Kudus in January appear to have taken a big blow, with Borussia Dortmund now firmly in the picture.
The Toffees were keen on the Ghana star late in the summer transfer window, making a deadline day effort to secure his signature that ended up being rejected.
It had been felt they would try to return in January, with the Everton squad in need of forward additions and a creative player in the number ten role.
Kudus’ continued impressive performances had been making it unlikely they would get their man, though, and now Dortmund are in the picture.
Kudus is someone they’re looking at, with journalist Marc Behrenbeck providing details on the situation.
“They have been watching him for a while and there have been talks,” he said.
“The thing that is positive, even if other clubs are on him: Otto Addo is top talent coach at BVB and at the same time his national coach at Ghana.
“BVB and Kudos? That’s hot! He can play as a hanging point, nine, right wing as well as offensive, but also central midfield.
“He is a very complete player and therefore also one who would fit well into the BVB squad because he can be used in many positions.”
That will come as bad news for Everton, who would have a hard time competing with Dortmund for Kudus in a head-to-head.
The Bundesliga side can not only offer Champions League football, but a yearly battle towards the top of the table and a proven track record of developing talent and securing them big moves in Europe.
