Everton suffered a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Rennes in their preseason friendly tie in France last week.
James Lea Siliki was the player who impressed for the Ligue 1 outfit with assists and a goal, and today’s edition of French newspaper L’Equipe claims the Merseyside club have ‘expressed their interest’ in the player in a ‘more concrete’ manner.
Marco Silva’s side are not the only club interested in the 22-year-old. Apart from them, Borussia Dortmund have also shown a firm interest in the Frenchman, but the two clubs are yet to make a formal offer.
The same report also mentions that Benfica could provide competition for the Premier League outfit and the Bundesliga club for Lea-Siliki, and it’s claimed Rennes president Olivier Letang has been anticipating bids for his player, and has therefore moved quickly to tie him down to a new deal.
Everton have allowed the likes of Wayne Rooney, Henry Onyekuru and Davy Klaassen to leave the club this summer, but have only signed Richarlison to replace them so far, and the English club could still be looking to bring in a new player to bolster their attack.
