Rumours linking Real Betis defender Emerson to Everton are ‘made up’ and an attempt to destabilise the club ahead of their clash with Barcelona.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who have dismissed any suggestions that Emerson is a target for Everton or AC Milan.
Emerson was linked with a move to Goodison Park on several occasions in the summer transfer window, with it well known the Blues were on the hunt for a right-back to challenge Seamus Coleman.
They ultimately did not end up doing so, instead spending their money elsewhere and bringing Jonjoe Kenny back to the club as back up.
However, a report in England this week claimed the defender, who is owned by Barcelona, remains a target for Everton and they would make an effort to get him.
Estadio insist that isn’t the case, though, stating confidently that ‘it’s all made up’ regarding the rumours.
They say that on the eve of an important match information about Betis’ players or about a ‘team or a third party’ intending to try and sign them ‘appears as if by magic’ in an attempt to ‘destabilise and distract’ the club.
They also add that these latest ones may have a basis in truth but the ‘moment is curious’ given the transfer window is not set to open for another two months.
Their tone is very much one of dismissal, with it strongly hinted the rumour is not only false but is nothing more than a distraction tactic that they seen on a regular basis.
That means it’s probably worth taking this rumour with a hefty pinch of salt for now and waiting to see if it reappears in January when clubs can actually do business.
