If RMC Sport are to be believed on their live blog on Thursday, Watford just made a massive statement ahead of the new season.

According to the French outlet, the Hornets rejected a €30m (€25m + €5m in bonuses) offer from Everton for their star midfielder Abdoulaye Doucouré.

The 25-year-old had a very impressive season at Vicarage Road during the last campaign, scoring seven goals and picking up four assists in 37 league games, and was allegedly a target for a few of the top six Premier League clubs.

However, none appear to have come forward, leaving Everton the opportunity to make their move, only to find the player’s reluctance to leave Watford just yet, wanting to ‘confirm’ his performances for another year with his current club.

We’ll have to see if the Toffees are done with this one, but with Marco Silva, who was a major reason for Doucouré’s early season goalscoring form, now in charge at Goodison Park, we wouldn’t be surprised if the Portuguese manager asked his new club to up the ante.
