Gerard Deulofeu being named in the Spain squad was a surprise for some, but for the AC Milan fans who have already fallen in love with the Everton loan player, it was deserved.

Deulofeu has an advantage with the current Spanish set up. The manager Julen Lopetegui was in charge of Spain’s U21 side and enjoyed success with Deulofeu a large part of that.

El Confidencial look at the situation on Saturday and claim that Everton under Ronald Koeman had become a ‘prison’ for Deulofeu, who was well aware he had no future at the club given the manager’s decisions.

It’s even claimed there was serious doubt in Milan about the 23 year old, despite the Italian club’s determined efforts to sign him from Everton. The gamble has paid off for Milan and Vincenzo Montella, and now the worry turns to whether they can make the loan permanent from Everton.

Everton had wanted to include a clause which would have seen Milan forced to buy Deulofeu, for a fixed fee, during the next window. The Rossoneri probably regret not agreeing.
