With a need to replace Stefan De Vrij, who will be leaving at the end of the season on a free transfer, Lazio are looking all over Europe for the right man.

Previously said to be interested in Celtic’s Jozo Simunovic, the Serie A side have a new man at the top of their list, and that man is Holger Badtsuber.

However, if that were to fail to materialise, their backup plan, according to Il Tempo, happens to play in the Premier League, and his name is Everton’s Ramiro Funes Mori.

Currently in his third season with the Toffees, the Argentinian defender has yet to make an appearance for them this campaign as he recovered from a knee operation.

Now back playing with the reserves, for whom he’s played two games in the past few weeks, the 27-year-old might be in with a shout to make a return before the Premier League comes to a close.

However, if Sam Allardyce doesn’t deem him fit (or good) enough to feature, then perhaps this summer could be the perfect time to part ways for both parties.

Funes-Mori has two years left on his Everton deal, meaning the club would be able to recoup some of the £11.6m they spent on him in the first place if they were to sell him.

For the player, it would mean a fresh start somewhere else.
