Ishak Belfodil’s collapsed winter move to Everton became the subject of several public slanging matches in Belgium. Agents blamed each other, Standard were criticised, and the whole thing turned into an almighty mess.
Belfodil himself was probably the calmest throughout, which could question Ronald Koeman’s reported doubts about the player’s character.
When the transfer saga was at its peak, and Standard had accepted an offer from Everton, Belfodil continued to train with his club at their mid-season camp. The player’s agent was hanging around, waiting for the word to take his client to Merseyside, and everything seemed imminent.
Even a teammate told fans waiting for photographs that it’d be their last chance with the Algerian because he was moving.
The striker could have kicked up a huge fuss but didn’t, and Belgium’s DH report he’s likely to get his move soon anyway. DH say there’ ‘no shadow of a doubt’ that Belfodil will be leaving Standard during the summer window.
Will it be to Everton? Well, unless Koeman has changed his mind about the player that looks unlikely.
