The rumours linking Romelu Lukaku to Juvetus were very frequent during the summer, and now seem to be back on track. The Old Lady signed Gonzalo Higuain from Napoli but want another addition, so the Everton star could still be a target for them.

According to Calcio Mercato, Juventus officials were present at Everton’s 2-0 win against West Ham on Sunday. This was a ‘final evaluation’ for the player, which could lead to an official bid for the player in the future.

But things are obviously not so easy. Everton don’t want the striker to leave, so the agent Mino Raiola would have a big part in this deal.

Perhaps the strangest things is Calcio Mercato consider Lukaku to be a ‘future heir’ for Mario Mandzukic, making the Belgian a ‘luxury reserve’ for now.

That’s not the kind of status you’d expect for a player who is certainly worth a great deal in the current market, so maybe they’re a bit out of line with Juventus’ real objectives.

Lukaku to Italy links won’t go away, largely because his agent is Mino Raiola. The player has repeatedly spoken about wanting to play Champions League football and Juventus would consistently provide that.

Whether they’d be prepared to pay what Everton would demand is quite another issue.
