All that excitement from the Colombian media regarding James Rodriguez’s start at Everton is now gone, and we start seeing some, very reactionary, worry over his recent form at the club.
The winger has had only two games with no goals and assists, besides the one he missed due to an injury, and that was enough for some concern in his home country.
Marca brought two different stories from the same journalist this weekend, both claiming James Rodriguez needs to step up and be more consistent at Everton.
The first one says the Toffees are ‘in crisis’ with the latest results, which feels a little heavy, and the big reason for it is the Colombian star’s form and injury.
The second story also acknowledged James Rodriguez’s poor form, but claimed that there’s still time for him to overcome this bad period and prove ‘Zidane and Kovac’ wrong.
“I am one of those who always believed in James. From my point of view, neither Kovac nor Zidane knew how to take advantage of the talent of this enormous footballer, so if he repeated the journey he had with these two coaches at Everton, I’d be tremendously disappointed,” the author says.
It’s claimed the player had been showing the Real Madrid and the former Bayern Munich manager that they were wrong not to use him regularly. But these last few fixtures were a setback, and he can only prove himself if returning well from the international break.
“The great ones are there precisely because they always stay at the top, whatever happens,” Marca writes.
