At the weekend, reports in the English press explained Everton are in talks with Atalanta to sign Duván Zapata on loan with an option to buy set at £15m (€17m).
This claim is relayed by Il Giorno, who then provide more information on this case. Their title states ‘Everton blitz for Zapata’.
With the Toffees showing interest in the 31-year-old, the report suggests he could have played his last game for the Serie A side, against Salernitana on Sunday.
It’s claimed Frank Lampard would ‘strongly ask’ the Merseyside club to bring the striker to Goodison Park in the winter market.
In the last few hours, Everton have launched negotiations with Atalanta general manager, Lee Congerton, for Zapata. The Italian club’s co-chairman, Stephen Pagliuca, was also present during the meeting with the Premier League side.
The Colombia international’s contract lasts until 2024. The ‘negotiations [are] underway’ with Everton, and Atalanta could decide to raise cash through his sale in January. It could be the last important offer the Serie A side would receive for their player in a declining phase.
With Atalanta open to letting Zapata leave, it needs to be seen whether Everton can agree a deal with them to secure his services this month.
