Last month, we carried a report from AS, who explained that Arsenal have identified Djené Dakonam of Getafe as a transfer target in the summer.
Marca now claim Everton have joined the Gunners in the race for the 27-year-old and the headline of the report reads: ‘Everton to bid for Djene’.
Marco Silva had Michael Keane, Yerry Mina, Kurt Zouma and Phil Jagielka as the four centre-backs for the 2018/19 season.
The latter has already confirmed his decision to leave the club, while the Frenchman, who was at Goodison Park on loan from Chelsea, will return to his parent club.
It’s important for the Premier League side to strengthen the heart of the back four for next season, which is why they have turned their attention towards the Togo international.
Djené has a release clause of €35m in his contract and his employer will not sell him for a price lower than his buyout clause… that’s their current stance anyway.
Marca says the asking price will not be an issue for Everton, if they are keen on securing his services.
Getafe have so far not received any firm offer from the Goodison Park side.
