A frantic day for transfers, Friday also gave us some updates regarding the future of Axel Witsel, Zenit St Petersburg’s Belgian midfielder.
Squawka reported as an exclusive that Everton had made a £30m bid for the 27-year-old, which had been accepted by the Russian club, and this has since been confirmed by the player’s father.
Speaking to Radio CRC in Italy, relayed by Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Mr Witsel said: “We have received a bid from Everton. Napoli are also interested in Axel”.
The former Benfica midfielder has been a target for Premier League clubs for a long time, as well as linked every summer with a move to Serie A.
Zenit paid a lot of money (£30m) to bring him to Russia back in 2012 in the first place, and it looks that they could be getting their money back this summer.
The player had made it clear to the Russian club he would be wanting a move away, and it looks like he’s on his way to getting his wish granted.
