Everton’s good relationship with Roma could see them work on a deal for Bernard in the January transfer window.
That’s according to Corriere Dello Sport, who provide the latest update on the Brazilian’s potential move to Italy today.
Bernard has been linked with a reunion with manager Paulo Fonseca at Roma for several months, with the Italian side having failed to get a deal over the line at the end of the summer transfer window.
It’s been suggested that they could revive their interest in January, with it claimed Roma were looking at the Everton man as an alternative to Stephan El Sharaawy.
Corriere back that up today, stating that while the Serie A side are struggling to get a deal for the Italian over the line, Fonseca is ‘winking at an old favourite’; Bernard.
He is ‘little-used’ by Carlo Ancelotti at Goodison Park and has a Spanish passport, which would, presumably, make a deal easier to get done.
The relationship between Roma and Everton, thanks to Ancelotti but also because of the deal they struck for Robin Olsen in the summer, means it is ‘not out of the question’ that they could negotiate for Bernard.
The newspaper says they would discuss a sale but also suggests that a loan deal is very much an option too.
First, though, Roma need to trim down their squad, with 26 players already on their books and the dressing room full.
Bernard is definitely on their list, though, with it now almost a daily that Roma are linked with reunited him with Fonseca in Italy.
