Roma are eyeing up a last-minute bid for Everton midfielder Bernard, should they fail to secure a return for Stephan El Shaarawy.
That’s according to LaRoma24, who say that the Brazilian is a potential target as bringing the Egyptian back to Rome is proving to be an ‘uphill’ task.
They are therefore looking at alternatives, and the website has learned that the Serie A side are ‘making an attempt’ to bring in Bernard from Everton.
According to their information, the midfielder would arrive on a permanent transfer, with Roma looking to complete a deal worth ‘around €7m’.
Whether Everton are open to a sale isn’t mentioned, although Bernard has fallen down the pecking order at the club this season and is yet to make an appearance in the Premier League, only featuring in the EFL Cup thus far.
That would suggest Everton are open to a move and a €7m profit on a player they signed on a free would surely not be sniffed at given their significant outlay this summer.
A move to Roma also makes sense for the player, who would be given regular game time and a reunion with former boss Paulo Fonseca, who he played under at Shakhtar Donetsk.
