A couple of days ago we covered a report from France which stated Arsenal had made contact over signing Rachid Ghezzal, and Everton remianed interested in the player.
Everton are said to have offered Ghezzal €400k per month during the summer transfer window, and agreed a fee with Lyon, but Ghezzal was holding out for better ‘sporting’ conditions.
Arsenal interest would obviously provide that to the Lyon winger, and Arsene Wenger could offer a contract now and then sign Ghezzal for free in the summer, when his contract runs out.
When Everton were first turned down, it wasn’t just sporting conditions given as the reason for Ghezzal snubbing Ronald Koeman. His camp were insistent that a renewal with Lyon was still possible, and something they were giving priority to.
Given a renewal hasn’t been signed, there’s every chance Ghezzal wanted to wait and go on a free transfer, enjoying the extra money which would come with that.
With Everton and Arsenal in the picture, L’Equipe on Friday add AS Monaco. It’s stated that whilst there hasn’t been a contract offer from Monaco yet, there has been contact.
Lyon would surely prefer Ghezzal go to the Premier League rather than their rivals, but the signing of Memphis Depay shows they’re planning for life without their contract rebel.
