Over the past few months, reports coming from Spain have suggested Arsenal and West Ham United are the two contenders for Athletic Club Bilbao’s Unai Núñez.
The defender has a €30m release clause in his contract and the La Liga side have long been trying to tie him down to a new deal.
Tuesday’s edition of AS explains the Gunners and the Hammers, along with Everton, are looking at the centre-back.
It’s claimed the Toffees and the Premier League duo have been interested in the 23-year-old’s situation at the Basque club in recent months. Apart from these sides, AC Milan and AS Monaco are also after the Spain international.
Athletic’s efforts to offer an extension have not been successful as the newspaper states Núñez has ‘declined to renew’ because he demands more minutes. The central defender has made only 12 starts in the league this season.
AS, however, makes it clear that despite interest from Everton and other sides, Athletic are yet to receive any firm offers for the player.
Online, AS state he ‘arouses the interest’ from Arsenal, West Ham and Milan.
Yeray Álvarez’s injury in the defeat to Real Madrid will give Núñez opportunities to start between now and the end of the season.
It remains to be seen whether or not that will be sufficient to convince Núñez to sign a new deal at the club.
